The 41st Tokyo Motor Show starts a two-week run on Saturday, and the manufacturers have already started teasing the curious with early press releases of what they plan to exhibit. And if there’s a trend across the four Japanese manufacturers, it’s all about controlling cost.
Honda are claiming six motorcycles are World Premier exhibits, but that number should have an asterisk. The World Premier that will get the most world-wide coverage is the air-cooled CB1100 that Honda have released for production as a 2010 model. The CB1100 was shown in the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show as a concept model, and after two years of spit-and-polish Honda are ready to show the 21st century version of the Universal Japanese Motorcycle.
Next to the production CB1100 Honda will have a custom version that apes the café racer look of the 1970’s. Though it’s heavily based on the production CB1100, Honda counts it as a World Premier.
Honda’s water-cooled CB1300 has been given a product-refresh design turn, and will be available in the traditional naked-style and in the “Super Touring” style with a quarter-fairing and saddle bags. Without the saddle bags Honda calls it the CB1300 Super Bol D’Or.
The other World Premier models couldn’t be any more different. Honda will show a fuel-cell scooter concept model called the EVE-neo and an electric light-weight model called the EV-Cub.
The technically not a motorcycle, the oddest vehicle Honda will show is the U3-X, a one-wheel personal mobility device that leverages balancing technology Honda developed for the ASIMO robots.
Yamaha’s big World Premier model is also air-cooled and based on a multi-decade old design. The venerable SR400 looks about the same as the day it was born in 1978, but now has been fitted with fuel injection.
Like Honda, Yamaha’s other World Premier exhibits are electric scooters.
Let’s hope Yamaha have a surprise up its sleeve.
Suzuki are a bit more ambitious than Yamaha for the 41st Tokyo Motor Show, but much less so than they usually are. The 1250cc Bandit gets fitted with a touring fairing to compete with Honda’s CB1300s. Like the CB1300s, the big Bandit is fitted with an anti-lock braking system. The Bandit is also available in a naked model.
For the domestic market Suzuki have a Boulevard 400 cruiser and a Gladius 400 ABS, the latter which shares a lot of DNA from the SV650 V-twin sport bike.
Suzuki also have the obligatory electric scooter, but it doesn’t look toy-like (which can be said about the Honda and Yamaha electric scoots). Suzuki have fitted a fuel cell to a Burgman scooter, a scooter more in size with the 125cc scooter marker than the 50cc scooter market.
Kawasaki rarely show a concept model or World Premier at the Tokyo Motor Show, and chances are they won’t this year. The same can probably be safely said about the other motorcycle manufacturers, as many of the foreign car manufacturers have elected to stay home this time.

The firm, whose Priapus Investment Fund invests in the adult entertainment industry, has a new mission for its iPorn girls: Convince Apple to approve its iPorn application for the iPhone.
Until now, the iPorn girls have been charged with titillating attendees at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference and participating in hot-body contests. But now, AdultVest is sending at least five “open-minded”—and no doubt scantily clad—iPorn girls into Apple’s boardroom to handle the, uh, touchy task of negotiation.
“The visit with Apple is being coordinated and is expected to take place in the next few weeks,” iPorn claims in a press release. “Due to the honed negotiating skills of the iPorn Girls, the company fully expects Apple will be convinced of how mutually beneficial a partnership with iPorn could be.”
AdultVest complains that being forced to download the iPorn app from BiPorn’s Web site is simply “too much of a hassle” for the lascivious.
“The whole world is waiting for Apple to stop controlling the type of applications its users are allowed to access,” iPorn claims. “The approval of the iPorn iPhone app would be Apple’s first step in the right direction—NO MORE CENSORSHIP!”
Despite feeling the need to resort to all caps, iPorn says it has no doubt that its busty bargainers will make quick work of the Apple board.
“A person very familiar with the matter said Apple execs are likely to respond favorably to the iPorn girls’ high level of motivation and willingness to bend over backwards in order to close a deal.”
Priapus was named Institutional Investor magazine’s “Hedge Fund Launch of the Year” last year. But sources close to the firm told FINalternatives earlier this year that AdultVest founder Francis Koenig was looting the fund to pay for his lavish lifestyle.
“There is almost no money left in the fund,” an investor said. “Koenig has an American Express black card through the company that he uses on partying, girls and high living. Most money is missing and iPorn.com is not worth what he says it is.”
Koenig has denied that there is anything untoward about AdultVest, other than its smutty investments.

According to the Associated Press, 18-year-old Isaac Owusu will serve 90 days of a two-year sentence in a Vermont prison after pleading guilty to two counts of committing a prohibited act and one count of lewd and lascivious conduct this past Thursday in what was the state’s first sexting case. It could’ve been worse for the teen from Morrisville, who told two teenage girls to send him videos or photos of them performing sexual acts. However, Vermont lawmakers recently decriminalized sexting, which led to sexual assault charges against Owusu being dropped as part of a plea deal.
Legislators say they passed the loosened sexting law because they didn’t want teens to be labeled as sex offenders due to, in the words of the AP, “something so foolish.” We doubt the parents of the two girls involved think this situation is “foolish,” at all. While this young man didn’t physically interact with these girls in any inappropriate way, his behavior is nevertheless unacceptable. Lawmakers need to send a hard message to teens: Sexting isn’t okay. A reduced sentence doesn’t accomplish that.

1996年，青海省科委下达了“九五”科技攻关项目————“‘黑土型’退化草地植被恢复技术研究”。经过大量研究调查，课题组得出结论：害鼠的滋生蔓延和破坏，以及冻融、水蚀，是造成“黑土型”草地退化的因素，但不是决定性因素，它们的存在和互相影响、叠加等作用加速了草地退化的过程。而真正造成草地退化的主要作用力是放牧过度。从而初步提出了适合青海南部地区的草地分级标准，将退化草地划分为轻度、中度、重度和极度退化4类，并提出了草地不同退化演替阶段的治理方案———对中度以下退化草地，采取灭鼠、封育、灭除毒草、施肥等综合技术措施进行自然恢复；对重度和极度不可逆的受损草地生态系统，通过建植人工和半人工植被的途径尽快恢复。
人工植被建植的关键技术，一是筛选适于当地生态环境种植的当家草种；二是要有得当的农艺措施和管理利用制度。为此，2001年，江河源区退化草地治理技术与示范课题列入“十五”国家科技攻关计划重大项目“中国西部重点脆弱生态区综合治理技术与示范”。其研究的重要内容就是“优良牧草筛选与人工半人工草地建植、管理技术与示范”。
根据三江源地区缺乏适合当地种植栽培的多年生草种和一年生饲草料品种的实际情况，通过引种栽培，课题组筛选出了适合高寒草甸退化草地生长的多年生禾本科草种青海冷地早熟禾、青海中华羊茅等5种草种。他们还筛选出了巴燕3号、青海444、选18共3种一年生燕麦品种，可用来建植优质高产的人工饲草料基地。此后，经过进一步的集成、熟化和检验，课题组筛选出13种适宜江河源区种植的草种，并制定出了牧草栽培技术规程。其中，课题组通过十几年的驯化选育，成功培育出的适宜在“黑土滩”生长的根茎型草种青海草地早熟禾，成功通过了2005年国家牧草品种资源审定委员会的审查，被登记为栽培牧草新品种。
多年的努力换来了示范区内草地植被的明显改善。目前，示范区已建成1120公顷优良牧草人工草地，鼠虫害灭治面积22万亩。核心示范区700公顷多年生人工草地没有发生严重退化，生长第四年青干草产量仍保持在每公顷5000公斤以上，盖度达90％以上。区域内水土流失得到基本遏制，一年四季已基本看不到次生裸地景观。草畜矛盾已彻底解决，幼畜成活率几乎达到100％，牧民的畜牧业收入连续多年稳定增加，科技示范得到牧民的全面认可。索南彭措说：“1996年我家只有100头羊，现在，我家养了400头羊，还有200头牛！收入比过去多好多！”

While some may not be shocked at the practice, what may be shocking is that the average age of those swapping these sexual text messages is around 14.
“Sexting is becoming a very large problem in our high schools and even middle schools,” said Deputy Frank Navarro of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Nationally, about one in five teens admitted to participating in “sexting,” according to a nationwide survey by the National Campaign to Support Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
Out of a group of 41 local teens and young adults, 19 said they have sexted.
While some local teens were worried their pictures may end up online or spread around campus, most said they were not thinking about that possibility when sexting.
“A lot of people and kids don’t realize the consequences of snapping a picture and sending it to someone,” Navarro said. “That picture can easily be sent out to unintended recipients and end up on the Internet. Once it’s up online, it’s there forever for anyone to see.”
Vanessa Hudgens of Disney’s “High School Musical” found herself in a similar situation when a nude picture of her that was meant to remain private surfaced on the Internet. Pictures of Miley Cyrus in underwear have also been splashed all over cyberspace.
Of the teens surveyed, 60 percent of boys and 66 percent of girls said they sexted to be “fun or flirtatious,” according to the study.
In some cases, teens — especially young girls — will send a sexy picture of themselves to a boyfriend, Navarro recounted. Then when the relationship sours, the recipient will turn around and send out the pictures to other people. The person in the picture can then be made the center of ridicule and humiliation.
Some experts cite teens‘ and tweens‘ impulsive nature and lack of foresight as to why many juveniles make the decision to take and send racy photos. Others feel it may be peer pressure. While teens’ behaviors may not have changed m u c h ge n e rat i o n t o generation, what has changed, Navarro said, is the technology.
“I have no doubt that if they had cell phones with cameras when we were kids, we would’ve seen a lot of the same things then,” the deputy said.
Navarro is quick to point out consequences can go far beyond humiliation and a bad reputation. There could be criminal charges brought against the child.
There is currently one case in San Bernardino County where a 12-year old sixth-grader is facing possession of obscene materials charges. The girl took video and pictures of herself in the nude performing sexual acts and then sent it out to various people.

Two Florida teens were convicted of producing and distributing child pornography when police learned the couple had taken nude pictures of themselves engaging in sexual behavior then sent them from the girl’s computer to the boy’s personal e-mail, officials said.
In 2007, an appeals court in Florida upheld their convictions.
